Let’s have a Gospel Conversation:
Philip’s Desire: “Lord, show us the Father.” Philip’s words reveal a longing—a deep hunger to see and know God fully. His heart cries out for something more, something tangible.
Have you ever felt like Philip—wanting God to be more visible, more undeniable in your life? But Jesus responds, not with a grand display of power, but with a truth that reaches deeper: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” Jesus isn’t just saying that He resembles God—He’s saying that in knowing Him, Philip has already encountered the heart of God. His love, His mercy, His truth—these are the very nature of the Father. What would change in your life if you fully believed that knowing Jesus means knowing God Himself?
Jesus’ Invitation to Believe: Jesus continues: “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?” He isn’t speaking in riddles—He’s drawing Philip (and us) into a deeper reality. His words, His actions, His very life are not just His own—they flow directly from the Father. Then comes a stunning promise: “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things…” What does it mean to truly believe in Jesus—not just in words, but in action?
The Gift of the Spirit: Jesus knows His time on earth is coming to an end, but He doesn’t leave His disciples alone. He promises “another Advocate”—the Spirit of truth—who will live within them forever. This Spirit is not just a distant helper; He is God dwelling inside them, guiding, reminding, and strengthening them. How have you experienced the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life—perhaps in moments of clarity, peace, or unexpected strength?
A Peace That Stays: Jesus’ final words carry a quiet, yet powerful assurance: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” Not a temporary calm, not the kind of peace the world offers, but something deeper—something that withstands fear, doubt, and uncertainty. What fears do you need to surrender today in order to embrace the peace Jesus offers?
